Non-Hermitian dislocation modes: Stability and melting across exceptional points

چکیده
The traditional bulk-boundary correspondence assuring robust gapless modes at the edges and surfaces of insulating nodal topological materials gets masked in non-Hermitian (NH) systems by skin effect, manifesting an accumulation a macroscopic number states near such interfaces. Here we show that dislocation lattice defects are immune to effect or most display weak (depending on its relative orientation with Burgers vector), as they support bulk NH system, specifically when parent Hermitian phase features band inversion finite momentum. However, gradually lose their core system approaches exceptional point, finally melt into boundary across gap closing. We explicitly demonstrate these findings for two-dimensional Chern insulator, thereby establishing can be instrumental experimentally probe pristine topology.

A non-Hermitian PT −symmetric Bose-Hubbard model: eigenvalue rings from unfolding higher-order exceptional points
We study a non-Hermitian PT −symmetric generalization of an Nparticle, two-mode Bose-Hubbard system, modeling for example a Bose-Einstein condensate in a double well potential coupled to a continuum via a sink in one of the wells and a source in the other. The effect of the interplay between the particle interaction and the non-Hermiticity on characteristic features of the spectrum is analyzed ...
متن کاملObservation of exceptional points in reconfigurable non-Hermitian vector-field holographic lattices
Recently, synthetic optical materials represented via non-Hermitian Hamiltonians have attracted significant attention because of their nonorthogonal eigensystems, enabling unidirectionality, nonreciprocity and unconventional beam dynamics. Such systems demand carefully configured complex optical potentials to create skewed vector spaces with a desired metric distortion. In this paper, we report...
متن کاملChiral modes and directional lasing at exceptional points.
Controlling the emission and the flow of light in micro- and nanostructures is crucial for on-chip information processing. Here we show how to impose a strong chirality and a switchable direction of light propagation in an optical system by steering it to an exceptional point (EP)-a degeneracy universally occurring in all open physical systems when two eigenvalues and the corresponding eigensta...
متن کاملChiral Modes at Exceptional Points in Exciton-Polariton Quantum Fluids.
We demonstrate the generation of chiral modes-vortex flows with fixed handedness in exciton-polariton quantum fluids. The chiral modes arise in the vicinity of exceptional points (non-Hermitian spectral degeneracies) in an optically induced resonator for exciton polaritons. In particular, a vortex is generated by driving two dipole modes of the non-Hermitian ring resonator into degeneracy. Tran...
متن کاملCoalescence of Two Exceptional Points in the Anti-hermitian 3-level Pairing Model
An essential part of the motion of short-lived nucleonic matter is in classically forbidden regions and, hence, its properties are effected by both the continuum and many-body correlations 1,2. The effect of resonances and the non-resonant scattering states can be considered in the OQS extension of the shell model (SM), the so-called continuum shell model (CSM) 1. Two realizations of the CSM ha...
